Living amongst a hodge-podge of international friends from Dubai to Australia and France I never cease to be surprised by time differences. As I chatted online and scrolled through my Facebook Newsfeed on New Year’s Eve I was alarmed by the time difference in Australia. Not only do Australians have their own country and continent, and are making me all-to-aware that it is summer, always, but also they are an entire day (in this case, year) ahead of us on the other side of The International Date Line. This redefine’s the term “yesterday’s news”
While it is 17:00 in Chicago on Monday and one may be considering adding a hint of Bailey’s to chime in the five o’clock bell, the folks in Melbourne would be enjoying their first cup’ o joe at 10AM on Tuesday, and would be calling it a day with a decaf espresso to conclude a rough Monday at Midnight in Paris. In other words, there is a +17 time difference between Chicago & Melbourne, and a +10 time difference between Paris & Melbourne.
While I was counting down the seconds until midnight last night, today officially begins my count down to Australia 2014, where the real issue will be: What day is it? Yet, the fact of the matter is that it’s five o’clock somewhere…
